Telecommunications service provider Vox, through subsidiary Frogfoot Networks, has signed a deal to provide fibre broadband infrastructure into the property portfolio owned by Safari Investments RSA.

Safari Investments is listed as a real estate investment trust on the JSE and has more than R2,4bn in property assets. Its properties include shopping centres in Atteridgeville, Mamelodi, Sebokeng, Heidelberg, Platz am Meer and Rustenburg.

Installation will commence with the retrofitting of the urban retail nodes in the Safari Investments stable with high-speed fibre, Vox said.

Safari said that it has decided to move away from Telkom as a service provider and that the partnership with Vox and Frogfoot is an exclusive one.

The property company will own all the passive infrastructure that is installed in its properties, and this will be maintained and managed by Frogfoot Networks as the exclusive open-access provider. This will give end-user customers a choice of Internet service providers, Vox said.

“Having an open-access fibre network differentiates their properties,” said Vox CEO Jacques du Toit.

Du Toit said Vox will offer bundled packages that include uncapped voice, uncapped Internet at speeds up to 1Gbit/s, mobile data, patron analytics and an electronic advertising platform that will assist tenants in promoting their products. — (c) 2017 NewsCentral Media
