Zain CEO Saad Al Barrak calls it quits

zain1Zain CEO quits: The CEO of Kuwait-based pan-African and Middle Eastern mobile group Zain has resigned. “Saad Al Barrak has handed in his resignation to the chairman of the board and the chairman will present the resignation to board members to look into the matter,” Zain, also known as the Mobile Telecommunications Co, said in a statement. No reasons were given for Barrak’s surprise decision. The group is faced with a potential changing in shareholding, with an influential shareholder pushing for a change in control. Zain operates in 23 countries and has more than 70m cellular customers. [The Wall Street Journal] [AFP]

Rumours Swirl of iPad rival from Google: Talk is growing that Google plans a tablet computer, based on its upcoming, Linux-based Chrome OS, to take aim at Apple’s recently unveiled iPad. The Chromium Projects, which is helping lead development of Chrome OS, this week published several mock-ups on its website that suggest that a Google tablet PC may be on the cards.
