‘You’re fired’ – Nyanda’s letter to Mohlala

Communications minister Siphiwe Nyanda

“The situation has deteriorated to an extent that I am not able to make untainted deductions on your actions and responses. The breakdown of our relationship has left the department in a stalemate.”

This is one of the accusations levelled at former communications department director-general Mamodupi Mohlala by communications minister Siphiwe Nyanda in his letter of dismissal to her, dated 23 July.

TechCentral has secured a copy of the letter of termination, which we publish in full below, from court papers filed by Mohlala’s attorneys earlier this week.

In the letter, Nyanda says: “Despite your submissions to the contrary, I am not convinced that there [is] still any trust that may be rekindled to sustain any meaningful employer-employee relationship.”

In the letter, Nyanda promises to pay Mohlala the equivalent of 12 months of salary.

Mohlala has rejected the offer and is taking Nyanda to court, claiming she was dismissed unlawfully.  — Staff reporter, TechCentral

Good to see that there are still people standing up against corruption. Mamodupi must be commended for standing up.

I sincerely hope the court rules in her favour.

Nyanda should be ashamed of himself, looking only to enrich and benefit himself. Surely there are others who can do better with the tenders he claimed for himself?

The Brazilian (lobby) is very concerned about this situation! Mohlala was all “opens arms” to Brazil and its agressive lobby for digital tv! Mohlala played an important part of the mess we got into….Brazilian lobby will miss Mohlala……

It is quite sad that the public is viewing Ms Mohlala as a martyr, someone must dig deep into the havoc she caused at the department of communications before condeming the honourbale general as a corrupt scroundrel. In her 10 months at the dept there was an exodus of senior management, she hired her friends and confidantes; promoted worthless people at the dept to senior positions, people who are incapable of making any worthwhile contribution to the department in any manner. I applaude the general even though it took him this long to realise the disrepute his department is in.

Talk about standing up against corruption at the department of comms,
One must look at the appointments made during Ms Mohlala’s tenure especially the one for the new Chief Director of HR.
How does an employee in HR put the advert on the papers for the position the position of CD HR,
all enqueries relating to the position be directed to the same individual, the very same person applies for the job, she becomes part of the short listing panel, she gets shortlisted for the position, eventually gets appointed as the CD HR. All the while the Chief Director of Human Resources is suspended then immediately gets fired while on suspension. Really now, that must be looked at!

It seems a lawyer wrote this, not the minister, and with such an official tone, the grammar should be impeccable. But so many times, the minister says “between you and I” instead of “between you and me.”

Small things annoy small minds. :p

Amazing : the man is Communications Minister, he cannot get his administration, tenders and policies in order so now has an attempt at re-writing the English language. “disjuncture” – meaning what exactly, or should that be meaning what absolutely?
Paragraph 4 …and which concern you and I as employer and employee…
    So who works for whom?
To respond to Grammar Nazi : it was possibly an intern who wrote the letter.

Nyanda finds new ways to stoop even lower. But then again he is protecting his tenders and preventing all who get in his way.
