Global financial crisis has exposed these fake South Africans who ran away from SA because they didn't want to be part of the progresive country. Now they are setting up another little Australia in the Western Cape, disguised as entrepreneurial platform. It is really sad to see someone like Mamphele going on like this....Steve Biko must be turning in his grave. Mamphele has never supported anyting done by the ANC government...even more so, the Zuma administration. There are many initiatives in the townships and rural areas that have more chance of lifting African people out of poverty and she's not endorsing such...but she quickly runs to be a house 'n*gga' and even receive a standing ovation when she tells the goverment that is it stupid. The sooner the goverment scrap the provinces the better for all of us. Thami Mazwai is doing a far better job at UJ Soweto Campus bringing up young BLACK entreprenueurs to the main stream economy. It is a pity that the black BEE vultures cannot even support him as they are busy filling their big stomachs. Silicon Cape will succeed because is backed by powerful folks.....Silicon Soweto is possible only if those BEE oligarchs can stop thinking about themselves and plough back.....before we have another province, Silicon Cape.

Arthur,

If there's one thing the Silicon Cape is desperately going to need, it's a talent pool of developers and other skilled employees to service it's needs. It's currently one of the problems is finding enough talented people, as a lot of our skills have left the country! So hopefully Silicon Cape will provide both a platform for the generation of new skills locally, and attract our skilled ex-pats back to the area!

Excellent article, Ivo. Well distilled!

I am excited about this.. and for one reason only.

Now we can circumvent the govrnment's education system and someone like me will be empowered enough to set up a digital academy in a dusty township and churn out developers and coders en masse..

The digital space will no longer be the playground of the affluent few..

Good work guys, keep it up!

You inspire startup folks like myself, running internet ventures on a small scale. Look out for Joburg as well, there's great stuff coming up.
