It is a pity when people just throw buzzwords they hardly understand to argue things they are also clueless about. PCs (including laptops) are here to stay. What consumers are looking from is seamless experience between the various devices they are using both at home and in the workplace. In essence, consumers want to move between the following 3 screens with less hassle i.e. PC, Mobile Phone and TV. Each of these devices will access applications and/or date locally or from the cloud. But where the applications reside is irrelevant to the consumer. They only want to get these services as and when they want. The introduction of Windows 7 is a welcome because it start to link these 3 screens.

Buzzwords seem to be todays technology. Especially cloud computing, which would still require a PC and an operating system to access while twittering your virtual googles in the cloud. Not sure what visualisation (or virtualisation) has to do with distributed systems...

Windows 7 is solid, my experience of it in pre-release has been good. I think Mr. Kan is right, it will give a bit of a transient boost to the market. Not sure what broadband prices have to do with it, though.

PC are yesterdays technology. Visualization on the desktop is where its happening now (cloud computing). Companies are tired of spending good money on refreshing PC's for their users. Perhaps you could do some research into this area Duncan and help educate the market?
