Vodacom subsidiary Gateway Communications is upping its investment in Nigeria, with plans to roll out broadband wireless services across 10 states in the highly populated West African nation.
Gateway West Africa MD John Dindlebeck says the company has acquired access to the 10,5GHz radio frequency band in the Nigerian states of Kano, Kaduna, Rivers, Delta, Abuja, Edo, Oyo, Anambra, Abia and Enugu. It is already providing wireless services using the 10,5GHz band in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital.
Gateway is using the spectrum to provide 10Mbit/s broadband, mainly to business customers. It says Port Harcourt and Abuja are next in line to receive services.
It has not disclosed how much Gateway is investing in the new infrastructure.
Vodacom, through its Vodacom Business subsidiary, has previously indicated that it plans to build a data centre to serve the Nigerian market. — Staff reporter, TechCentral
