SuperSport HD to launch

Local sports fans will soon have a dedicated high-definition (HD) television channel on MultiChoice’s DStv bouquet.

The pay-TV operator this morning confirmed that it will soft-launch SuperSport HD on 26 December to coincide with the start of the test match between SA and England. The channel will launch officially on 12 February, the same day as the opening game in the Super 14 rugby tournament.

SuperSport HD will be the second HD channel on DStv following the earlier launch of M-Net HD on channel 170.

The new channel will be available to Premium bouquet DStv subscribers, who have HD-capable decoders, and will broadcast on channel 171.

MultiChoice launched its HD PVR decoder last year and has been broadcasting a variety of HD programmes, including sport, on M-Net HD.

The company has previously indicated that it plans to launch three new HD channels early next year, including SuperSport HD.  — Staff reporter, TechCentral
