You cannot compare the journalism being done about a tech toy release -- of COURSE that was going to be tweeted etc. -- to day-by-day journalism. So this guy makes money reporting on the tech world. Great for him. Tell me, please, how this has the remotest thing in common with your local daily newspaper covering the city council, the school board, local crime, and what's going on in general.

The stuff being read online still came, in the overwhelming majority of cases, from a low-paid newspaper reporter working for a struggling newspaper. When we're all dead from exhaustion and our papers dump us when they can no longer afford our tiny paychecks, who then will be creating non-commercial content for the non-sexy but important bits of news that any engaged citizen wants and needs about his or her community?

The only question at this point is whether newspapers will be able to make money from their content that is online, or whether we'll disappear and be replaced by all-opinion-all-the-time blogs.

I agree that the iPad won't "save" journalism. Like the music industry, journalism will have to find its way.

However, Magazines & Comics really could thrive on the iPad.

News websites are designed the same: click story title or tag line. How about like a newspaper? You know. You can see the article and read a little before being sucked in. How often have you been reading a newspaper and read a lot more than you had intended because you "got roped" by articles? I NEVER do that on news sites. I don't have a newspaper subscription to a local or national newspaper, but I'd definitely get one that I could navigate (w/ full page pictures and some video) on an iPad. Imagine NatGeo on an iPad.

You know Comicbook could be amazing. I don't even read comics even though some come out that I wouldn't mind reading. I just don't like going to the comic shop and asking about a comic book, only to be barely acknowledged by a worker more interested in ANYthing else.
