Lance let us know what the new generation of music games are like. Power Gig(I think its called) uses a virtual drumkit and full 6 string guitar. I was hoping that Kinect would have some more interesting uses like the virtual drum kit.

I don't think much (spectacular) is going to come from this E3. Flipside is there are some fantastic games to continue what has been a great gaming year so far.

I'm thinking the Kinect will appeal to exactly the same market as the Wii - families and friends who don't take gaming very seriously. I just wonder how many of them would invest in a brand new Xbox+Kinect for the sake of playing games just as spastic and exerting as the Wii they already have.

Or maybe i'm just underestimating how much people *love* to spend money ;)

I watched the live cast of the event, and that thing that I found most interesting is how MS is attacking the living room on a non-games platform - the integration of zune pass into the xbox ecosystem to take on itunes, the sports stuff, and the video chat were all aimed at getting adults to buy the Kinect. The voice/gesture interface was interesting, who knows if it'll catch on. Personally, I don't have a problem with pressing a small button on a remote as opposed to leaping up and waving my arms around.

Playing on the kinect really does make people look spastic, but if there's one thing that the Wii and DDR at the arcade has taught us, is that the target market loves that stuff.

Up to now, iTunes hasn't had a credible competitor, but I fancy with the Zune Pass now working across Xbox, Windows Phone 7 and Windows, it becomes pretty interesting. If they could somehow roll the series and/or movies into a flat-rate-per-month price, MS would be clearly ahead in the war for the living room.

The speakers were truly awful though - I think they got William Shatner in to give them all public speaking lessons.
