Flat-rate data comes to Samsung phones

Nashua Mobile’s flat-rate data packages will be available for Samsung’s flagship Galaxy Note 2 smartphone

Nashua Mobile has extended its flat-rate data products, Xtreme Data and Xtreme Data Premium, to some Android-powered Samsung Electronics smartphones after earlier introducing the plans on certain Nokia handsets earlier this year.

The Xtreme Data products will be available on the Samsung Ace Advance, Galaxy Y, Galaxy Pocket and Galaxy Note 2 smartphones with effect from 7 November. This extends the services beyond selected Nokia Asha and Lumia devices for the first time.

Xtreme Data is being pitched as an alternative to the BlackBerry Internet Service, which offers unlimited on-device browsing on BlackBerry handsets. Costing R59/month, Nashua says it offers consumers unlimited access to e-mail, browsing, social networking and instant messaging from their handsets. The Premium version costs R139/month and allows users to download apps and games and view YouTube, too.

Nashua Mobile says the Premium option is for users who consume 400MB or more per month.

Both products are subject to fair-usage policies. Customers will experience a decrease in download speeds once they have exceeded a threshold in their data usage for the month — 100MB for the Xtreme Data standard service and 400MB in the case of Premium.

Users who have their data shaped at this point will be able to keep using their data service for email, social networking or chatting and will only experience a degraded experience when downloading apps or streaming video on YouTube.  — (c) 2012 NewsCentral Media

is this an early april fool’s joke? R139 for a mere 400MB? i will stick with Cell C where I can get at least 1G for that money.

Yeah, they should be hauled up before the advertising police for this deal. It’s a bad joke. I get 3gig + uncapped 384kbit after I hit that 3gig cap for R299 at MTN. That’s a proper smartphone data contract.

Mxm… what a bloody rip off. We are all not against the flat-rate, we have a problem with the pricing (it is not competitive)

The Blacberry’s BIS is still very much competitive, though it does not include utube streaming, u can live without that.
