Core Group, which distributes Apple products in SA, has slashed the price of the first-generation iPad. The price cuts are in line with reduced prices internationally following the announcement last week of the iPad 2.

The entry-level, 16GB, Wi-Fi-only iPad now costs R3 899, from R4 399 previously. The top-end model, which has 64GB of memory has been reduced to R6 999 from R7 599.

Previously, the iPad with Wi-Fi cost R5 399 for the 32GB model and R6 399 for the 64GB version. The models with both 3G and Wi-Fi had cost R5 599 (16GB), R6 599 (32GB) and R7 599 (64GB).

Core Group spokesman Taryn Hyam says the price cuts are permanent. She also confirms the company is in talks with Apple in the UK about bringing the second-generation iPad to SA. However, she says she is unable to say yet when the product will be launched here.

Update: Hyam says anyone who bought an iPad from a Core Group-owned iStore branch between 3 March and 7 March is entitled to a rebate to the value of the difference between the new pricing and old pricing. — Staff reporter, TechCentral
