It seems the normal progression in pay TV is to repeat a lot at the beginning. Criticisms of TopTV’s repeating of programmes is one that is based on wishful thinking. With 120,000 subscribers, TopTV cannot compete with DStv’s muscle of 2,85million subscribers in SA alone.

However, with the great uptake that the SA market has responded with to TopTV, I think it can only get better. We should expect the same from WOW TV.

TopTV have indicated that they will be adding 5 – 15 new channels in the coming months (i.e. from September or October). This, in my opinion is because they have got a great response from us (I am a subscriber and I love TopTV). As they acummulate more content and secure more lucrative deals as they grow, their programming will certainly improve.

I am on the R99/mth bouquet and will upgrade in 8months after all the repeating. Apparently, the repeat schedule is 3months, then 6 months then 12months. Right now TopOne is my best channel and why I am sticking with it. Shows like Dexter, 4400, the Closer, Numbers, CSI Miami, Kyle XY and I’m sure more to come are worth my R99/month – if others are paying R285 for a similar channel (M-Net).

TopTV is on point – lovin’ it.

Too many inferior programmes, boring ones or channels that are irrelevant to SA viewers (like pompous American presenters droning on ad nauseum about American politics), plenty of repeats, very outdated programmes and most of the so called movies are either ancient or rubbish, unexplained breaks in transmission etc.

I am now convinced the reason Top Tv was able to offer such affordable packages is because they bought inferior TV programmes and had to scrap the bottom of the barrel.
If there is not a drastic improvement VERY SOON, I am trading in my Top Tv decoder and dish for Dstv….they should focus more on trying to RETAIN their customers instead of greedily just trying to sign up as many new suckers as possible!
